Turn Your Poolside Area into an Oasis This Summer with Custom Soft Goods

Summer is fast approaching, and we want to ensure your pool is a peaceful oasis and a premier gathering destination for you, your family, and your friends. By adding inviting patio furniture and state-of-the-art window coverings, you can make sure your poolside patio looks its best. You’ll also create a space where your friends and family will want to hang out throughout the summer months. Today, we wanted to share a few ways we can help you turn your pool area into a comfortable lounging space for you and all your guests.

Choose comfortable, upholstered furniture

Around your pool, we recommend choosing comfortable, luxe seating areas with custom upholstery. One of the most glamorous items you can add is a chaise lounge, which will typically have adjustable backs so you can comfortably recline at any angle. It’s one of the most popular furniture options for people that want to relax and soak up the sun before or after a dip in the pool. Or opt for a cushioned sectional set that can provide a comfortable place to converse and relax.

No matter what types of outdoor furnishings you choose, we can create custom cushions using high-quality outdoor materials. We’ll then cover the cushions in fade-resistant, water-resistant fabrics from trusted brands like Sunbrella. By selecting custom upholstery, you’ll be able to showcase your personal style and create something far more comfortable and long-lasting than anything you can buy in the store. We also offer made-to-order umbrellas and throw pillows to complement your furnishings and complete the look.

Install draperies & solar shades

Another great way to ensure your outdoor living space is as beautiful and functional as your interior is to add custom draperies or solar shades to your patio, pergola, deck, or porch.

Custom draperies can complement your patio furniture while creating an attractive, relaxing outdoor oasis. Drapery panels will transform any nook into a special corner to relax, entertain, or simply create an extension of your living area for additional space. They can also extend the life of your furnishings and protect your skin by helping you avoid direct sunlight.

We also often recommend installing exterior roller shades, called solar shades, to further protect your space. Solar shades are custom-made to fit any area and help you extend your living room into your backyard. They can prevent sun glare, reduce what, and block up to 99 percent of harmful UV rays. The material is available in various weaves, textures, and colors, so we can help you find the perfect option to complement your poolside design. If you would rather prevent sun glare, we recommend selecting a darker material for your solar shades. If blocking out the heat is more important, choose a lighter-colored fabric.

Select the right fabric

The right choice of fabric is imperative for your poolside furniture and draperies. Outdoor soft goods are always subject to the elements of nature. Selecting material designed to be exposed to the elements can increase the longevity of your draperies and furniture while ensuring they hold up to wear and tear.

We recommend selecting fabrics that can repel water and moisture and protect against mold and mildew. This will help you avoid damage and minimize the number of times you need to get your furnishings reupholstered or your draperies replaced.

Waterproof vs. water-resistant performance fabric

When it comes to outdoor fabric, you typically have two major categories: waterproof and water-resistant.

Waterproof material is made from rubber or plastic and prevents water from penetrating the surface. Unfortunately, it also prevents air from traveling through the surface, which can cause a few issues. Because air cannot travel through the surface, it can encourage the growth of mold and mildew within the cushion itself. And waterproof fabrics can be uncomfortable, particularly on a hot day in the southeast, because the material can become sweaty and sticky when it comes into contact with skin.

Water-resistant fabric, on the other hand, does not absorb water. If water is spilled on the surface, it stays there, allowing the fabric to dry out quickly. Water-resistant materials vary significantly in absorbency, and some options will repel water on a molecular level, preventing moisture from seeping through the fabric into the cushion. In general, the tighter the fabric’s weave, the more difficult it will be for water to penetrate its surface.

Choose Sunbrella for long-lasting outdoor furnishings

One of our favorite solutions for outdoor upholstery and draperies is material from Sunbrella. Their solution-dyed acrylic performance fabric is made by dyeing the fibers before the yarn is woven, which allows the color to fuse deep into the fabric. These fibers are then spun into fade-resistant, soft, breathable, and water-resistant yarn. Sunbrella’s performance fabric also dries quickly, which discourages the growth of mold and mildew. It’s durable, keeps its shape and color, and is relatively easy to clean
